Anglais pour psychologues (Lynn Leger) : Homework L2

Are people getting addicted to Facebook and social media? How do these social
websites influence how people interact and behave?

We can wonder why people need to use this technology. The real human connection has been remplaced by a virtual connexion. The mediator between interlocutors is a robot. Modernity is fast and sometimes devastator. Indeed, the most people use Facebook and social media. Young people are the biggest users. Old people also jump on it. They share, tchat, communicate. We can find old friends and add new friends. They become slowly addicted. Then completely. It's difficult to get out of this spiderweb. Because this behavior becomes a habitude.

The human fears are simple. They don't want to feel alone. Facebook gives them a feeling of connection with others (family, friends, collaborators...etc). This is as the phone. We use it that to facilitate the echange. I think human beings had antennas serving to feel the mouvements of their brothers, their family members. They have to have conscience that they are separated physically and mentally with others in order to be unit with themselves and to be free of the spiderweb.

Facebook is a illusion of connection. In fact, the issue is the authentic and sincere communication. Comunication have to become more human, more real, more generous, more empathic, more attentive. People should say what they have in his heart and take time to be alone. Be alone can be benefit. Meditation is a nice therapy for know its identity and grow its spirituality.

Despite this, certain people consider social media as a miracle, the best invention of the century. Facebook as a place of sharing, where we can take informations. However, by dint of eating that soup, they transform in a genius zombie who know everything about but not about true life. No experience, no life. They take refuge in the virtual life instead of look at their problems, their situation. Surf on the web to forget life ?

Last thing : today people have a lot friends online but how many are real ? It's the important question that everyone have to wonder. Very philosophical I know. Quality or quantity ? We decide. Our way of life, our meaning of life. Real or not real. Accepting the reality or not ? I am not psychologist. Just a friend, your friend, your brother. You can be my friend, a real friend.
